Recruiting two tenure-track faculty at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Neuroscience

UCLA is recruiting two tenure-track faculty at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Neuroscience. One position is in the David Geffen School of Medicine with an appointment in the Department of Neurobiology and the other position is in the College of Letters and Science, Division of Life Sciences with a split appointment in the Department of Integrative Biology & Physiology and the Institute for Society and Genetics. Successful candidates will be evaluated by the respective units/departments in which they are appointed. These positions were created in partnership with the Ralph J. Bunche Center as part of the campus-wide effort to rise to the challenge expanding scholarship in the areas of racial and social justice at UCLA, sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost. Both appointments have the opportunity to be affiliated with the UCLA Brain Research Institute.

We seek candidates whose research addresses fundamental biological, environmental, or social mechanisms influencing the nervous system that affect health, well-being, resilience, and/or physiology in Black individuals and communities living in a racialized society. Successful candidates will exhibit interdisciplinary skills and aspire to work at the intersection of neuroscience, biology, and society. Preference will be given to applicants who have strong academic scholarship, potential for joining or leading initiatives that address the health of Black communities and a strong record/potential for mentoring trainees from diverse backgrounds.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in any relevant discipline and are encouraged to apply one or both positions. Congratulations to Ceazar Nave for receiving the IRACDA@UCLA Fellowship

Congratulations to Ceazar Nave, Ph.D., postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of Jeff Donlea in the Dept of Neurobiology, for receiving the Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award at UCLA Fellowship.

The IRACDA Program at UCLA supports postdoctoral scholars in the biological sciences who have a demonstrated interest in teaching, research, mentoring, and supporting diversity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. IRACDA combines a traditional mentored postdoctoral research experience with an opportunity to develop academic skills, including teaching, with pedagogical training provided through CEILS workshops and CIRTL courses, as well as faculty mentored teaching assignments at our partner institution, California State University Los Angeles (CSULA). The program is expected to facilitate the progress of postdoctoral candidates toward research and teaching careers in academia. The program is sponsored through Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA), supported by the division of NIGMS at NIH. A major goal of IRACDA is to produce a workforce in STEM with a strong commitment to teaching diverse undergraduates, particularly at institutions that have a history of training students underrepresented in higher education. In addition to motivating the next generation of scientists at our partner institution, another goal of IRACDA is to foster interactions between UCLA and CSULA faculty that can lead to further collaborations in research and teaching.

Open rank, tenured-track/tenured faculty position in the basic sciences at UCLA

The David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) at UCLA (https://medschool.ucla.edu) announces an open rank, tenured-track/tenured faculty position in the basic sciences  (Biological Chemistry, Computational Medicine, Human Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, & Molecular Genetics, Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, Neurobiology, and Physiology). Candidates must have a MD (or equivalent) and/or a PhD (or equivalent) in a field relevant to one of the above departments. We seek a motivated individual that will contribute leadership to establishing an inclusive environment that champions justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate must demonstrate a history of commitment to the mentorship of students from underrepresented and underserved populations, as well as an outstanding record of scholarly publications and grant funding. The successful candidate will be expected to continue their active research program and their participation in mentoring activities. Service and teaching expectations will be commensurate with other tenure track faculty positions in the DGSOM. An appointment at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be offered as appropriate to the applicant’s academic standing.
