The Department of Neurobiology congratulates Weizhe Hong on receiving the 2021 John H. Walsh Young Investigator Research Prize from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Professor Hong-wei Dong and lab collaborators’ work was spotlighted in Dr. Francis Collins’ August 3rd Director’s Blog. The Dong Lab is busy cataloging cell types and helping to assemble a wiring diagram of the connectivity in the mammalian brain, under the NIH BRAIN Initiative. Undergraduate student researcher Jessica Sawaya from the lab of Professor Paul Micevych in the Department of Neurobiology was selected as a winning entry in the 2021 Library Prize for Undergraduate Research, Science, Engineering, & Math, 3rd place) for her paper, “Time course of estrogen and progesterone induced lordosis in mice.” The Department congratulates Ms. Sawaya for this achievement.
Weizhe Hong named a 2020 Mallinckrodt Scholar
Each year thirty institutions are invited to submit one or two candidates to compete for the Mallinckrodt Scholar Award. The institutions are selected by the Mallinckrodt Board based on their history of quality grant applications and award selection. Candidates should be in their fifth to eighth year of a tenure track faculty position. From these nominations, four are chosen for direct interviews in St. Louis and one to two of these are selected to be Mallinckrodt Scholars. This competition is by invitation only. Asst Professor Weizhe Hong has been named a Scholar for the 69th cohort of this award.
